“Granted, minor and modest design experiments, like the one sketched out in this book, are insu.cient – even a little self-indulgent, I guess – when considering our current predicament, when what seems to be so desperately needed is not episodic and #eeting moments of playfully studious sociality but a permanent, militant practicing of alternatives. But then again, I cannot help asking myself: what is sufficient, at this point, and where? Perhaps just as importantly: how do we collectively equip ourselves with the type of complicities and sensibilities that, I think, we ought to bring into admittedly much more urgent – if often mundane – interventions? With such questions in mind, my hope is that designing prefigurations of a studious use may contribute, however minimally, to infrastructuring orientations that ‘can become diffused and can persist beyond the event that generated them’.”

“Through a blend of theoretical critique, philosophical inquiry, and experimental design practices, A Studious Use offers a rethinking of sociality not as a coming together of independent, if interacting subjects and objects but, rather, as a primary, undirected, ongoing collective experiment.”
