“GREENWASHING makes technologies, science, culture, economics, socio-political entities, amongst others, seem more environmentally friendly than they are, hiding environmental neglect or harm. Greenwashing in the climate movement distracts us with technological fixes that still rely on the fundamental violent and destructive structures that caused climate change in the first place.
This toolkit highlights how greenwashing plays out in the push for widespread electrification, which requires lithium and other industrially mined metals for batteries. We hope it will help guide activists, students, community organizers, and anyone who seeks a path of justice and liberation from co-constitutive systems of oppression, toward a decolonial/anti-colonial and anti-capitalist approach to climate action and environmental justice.”
