Alternative Openings

Door: Layla Gijsen

“Locks protect the things we own. These objects of daily use are relatively small but represent one of the biggest social structures our world knows — ownership. In Alternative Openings, Layla invites visitors to rethink the concept of ownership as we know it by understanding the technical side of locks.

In line with the essence of skill-sharing, she teaches visitors how to lockpick locks and lock boxes. By learning how to bypass the need of a key or code, we might see that property is just another illusion, like the idea of an unbreakable lock.”
