les soulèvements de la terre

“We were all wondering how to pick up the thread of revolt again, how not to clutch at life as it was before, at the headlong rush of a deadly capitalist mode of production that had brought us to the brink of climate upheaval, the collapse of life itself, the time of pandemics, and social and health systems ripped apart by predatory economic policies. What was striking at the time, beyond the rhetoric and the ambient green-washing – even our most cynical enemies were talking about the ‘next world’ – was the colossal inertia, the collective apathy, the widespread inability to change the course of things, to open up gaps in the existing situation, as if we couldn’t find the gestures to match the times. This is because the words of old politics – including old left-wing politics – are worn out to the bone, and the classic reformist ways of challenging them are exhausted and powerless. Hence the first political demand of Earth Uprisings: to pragmatically identify direct methods of struggle, levers and support to fight against extinction and regain the capacity to influence our collective destiny, no longer content with simple demands, to act without further delay, so that we can learn to speak of revolution again.”
