Weaving Solidarity

“The tapestry, informed and inspired by the patterns on the textile worn by the women in the photographs of the dispute, celebrates and honours the collective resistance and the strength these women showed through their collective action. The patterns on the tapestry combine the archival findings on the labour dispute with artistic interpretations and speculations with overemphasised pattern structures, such as those found in the women’s clothes. Weaving resonates deeply with themes of labour and collectivity, echoing the repetitive motions of factory work. These pieces symbolise the layering of history, materiality, and emotion.”

“Through weaving, moving images, and collaged stills, Remembering Otherwise transforms intangible memories, gestures, and sensory fragments into layered tactile and visual forms. sağ reimagines the women’s stories beyond the fragmented and decontextualised traces left in institutional archives, bringing forward moments of collective struggle, solidarity, and resilience.”
